Start Time (Crossing Midnight)
Many companies have diverse needs on how they
would like the system to handle employee worked
time that crosses midnight (or their pay period's
"Daily Start Time").
This screen is intended to meet a majority of
needs as related to scheduled and unscheduled
time crossing midnight.
Note: This
is an advanced setting used in very particular
situations. Before attempting set up, please refer
to the Crossing
Midnight General Requirements.
To access this screen, click on the main "Admin"
tab, and then on the "Pay Periods" link
located under the Policies
heading. From the list of active pay periods that
appears, located the desired period, and click
on the link in the Daily
Start Time column.
Pay Periods Setup - Edit Start Time
This section of the screen allows you to set
up a general time offset for the pay period.
- The Name
of the applicable pay period is displayed.
This setting is not editable from this screen.
- The Start
Time Offset allows you to set
an offset for the beginning of new periods.
Enter the desired offset in "HH:MM"
format.
- The next drop-down allows you to
select whether you would like the specified
offset to be added or subtracted from midnight.
Scheduled Punch Rules
Crossing Midnight rules apply to shifts so that
they are displayed on the same Time Card date
as their punches.
The Allow
Shift to Assign Punch In/Out Type option
allows the system to override a punch’s “IN/OUT”
status.
If enabled,
punches that are applied to schedules
will use a different set of rules from
unscheduled time.
If disabled,
all punches will be treated as unscheduled
time, and the system will not dictate
the punch’s “IN/OUT” status according
to schedules. “Unscheduled Punch Rules”
will then apply.
The Assign
Punches to the Date of the Shifts field
defines the date that the scheduled shift,
and punches for that shift, are displayed
on the Time Card.
Unscheduled Punch Rules
Punches that are not associated with a schedule
have a different set of rules from scheduled punches.
The Assign
Punches to the Date of the field allows
you to define the date that the punches are
displayed on.
- Select “IN Punch” to display time on
the date of the punch pair’s “IN” punch.
- Select “OUT Punch” to display time
on the date of the punch pair’s “OUT”
punch.
- “Split Time” always uses the “IN” punch
of the punch pair to determine the date
on which the pair is displayed.
“Majority
Time” uses the pay period’s Daily Start
Time to determine which is greater, the
amount of hours from the “IN” punch to
the Daily Start Time, or the amount of
hours from the Daily Start Time to the
“OUT” punch. Punches are assigned to the
date with the most hours. In the case
of an even split, hours are assigned to
the date of the “IN” punch.
- Used only when “IN Punch” is selected for
the field above, the Time
Used to Group Punch Pairs option allows
all punches (including “Break, “Lunch,” and
“Transfer” punches) to be grouped together
and displayed on a single date without the
use of a shift. Punches will be grouped together
if the amount of time between punch pairs
is less than the “HH:MM” specified here.
- Used only when “Split Time” is selected
in the Assign
Punches field, enable the Only
Split at Pay Period End option to define
that punches should only split on the last
day of the pay period, when crossing over
to the next period.
Used only when
“Split Time” is selected in the Assign
Punches field, select whether you would
like the system to Split
on a Holiday.
- Enable this option to allow the system
to split hours on a specified Holiday
date.
- When disabled, if an employee begins
work the day before a holiday and crosses
midnight, the amount of time on the holiday
date is not applicable to the worked holiday.
If an employee begins work on the holiday
date and crosses midnight, the hours worked
on the date after the specified holiday
are applied to the worked holiday.
Be sure and save the changes that you have made
before exiting the “Edit Start Time”
